constipation

any awesome secret tips for helping with this?
We just got magnesium hydroxide to try as lactulose doesn't work so good but it tastes so awful he won't take it even with juice. I just made him a VERY sugary hot chocolate with some in it and he drank a bit but not much- it's pretty yucky stuff!

We haven't had this problem with the boys; when I've had it I've found increasing liquids and fibre has helped. I take psyllium husks with a lot of water. It's tasteless but rather sludgy so I'm not sure how well it would go down, it's a soluble fibre though so much more gentle than wheat bran and inert so is not actually absorbed by the body.

Funnily enought, DD1 is my only child with no constipation problems!! DD2 (very NT), and DD3 (undecided Neutral ) both have issues with constipation. With DD2 we basically skipped the lactulose and went to the milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide?) - from about 1 year old. We used to put it in her milk because of the taste, kept her on it for about 18 months. We stopped it/weaned her from it when she toilet trained, and moved onto Movicol Half - which is a better tasting one - and we could give it in her juice. I am sure AliG (from TNN) went straight onto Movicol Half because her daughter wouldn't touch the milk of magnesia. Have you tried putting it in icecream or yoghurt? If you ask your doctor for Movicol Half - make sure you mention the "half" as it is a less strong version than the "Movicol". I don't think you can get it on prescription - you have to pay full price for it - about $1 per sachet (I think). We are still on lactulose for DD3, I usually put it in her weetbix in the morning, and it keeps her "regular" - I don't want milk of magnesia for her because of the taste - hopefully, I can just move on to Movicol Half if necessary - but my GP asked me to talk to her about it before just doing it myself Smile

psyllium husk is great, you can put it in baking to get around the sludgyness Smile
